The latest rumor coming from SemiAccurate suggests that we might see delays for the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chips. This rumor points towards TSMC, the company that manufactures the 28nm chips. The rumor states that TSMC halted their production line during February and will not resume activities before the end of this month.
This spells trouble for Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 devices like the HTC One X, HTC One S, Panasonic’s ELUGA Power and the Asus PadFone. All these devices are running Qualcomm’s dual-core solution. However, there is a glimmer of light, as the international version of the One X is shipping with NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 chip, which isn’t facing any delays.
Panasonic and Asus announced their devices for an April release. This might not come now because of the delay. HTC’s handsets were also scheduled for a spring release, so we might have to wait some more for those as well.
However, this is a rumor, so TSMC might not be in such grave peril after all. We won’t know until later on during the month.
